New or Prospective Students

These pages are intended to provide you with information about the range of accommodation available at the University of Greenwich and how to apply for it. Although we guarantee accommodation to our new students, we cannot promise to allocate the precise type of room or hall that an applicant prefers. We do, however, promise to do our best to allocate halls and rooms according to students’ own preferences. If you are unhappy in the accommodation offered to you then you will be able to discuss this with an Accommodation Officer who will always facilitate a room move where possible. However we do encourage students to spend some time in their allocated room as we find that the majority of residents soon settle in and enjoy living in the accommodation that they are offered.

We hope that this information will assist you in making your choice and submitting your formal application, but please contact us at any time if you have any questions.

There are approximately 2,300 places in halls of residence on or near the university’s campuses. Most rooms are single study-bedrooms in self-catering flats with either shared or en-suite bathroom facilities and communal kitchen/dining areas. The university also offers self-contained studio flats in the McMillan Student Village near the Greenwich Campus. Rooms are cabled to provide direct access to the university’s network, the Web and e-mail. This service is free in all residences with the exception of the McMillan Student Village where a one-off charge applies. Students do not usually pay extra for utilities such as electricity and gas although a charge may be applied if residents exceed their electricity allowance, in some residences a credit will be applied if residents do not use their full allowance

A full description of all university accommodation, together with instructions and advice on all aspects of applying for and living in student accommodation, can be found on the following pages.

Private Accommodation

If you know that you would prefer to live in private rented accommodation and either share a house or flat with friends or  rent a bed-sit or lodgings for yourself, you won't need to follow the steps and links above. Each Accommodation Office maintains a register of local off-campus accommodation. You can learn more on the Rented Houses and Flats pages.
