Job Opportunities
Accommodation Services involves students in many aspects of Halls management, and students interested in undertaking work - either casually in vacation periods or with more commitment as resident staff for a year at a time - are invited to apply for a variety of positions. Opportunities will be available for:
Resident Assistants (RAs)
Each Hall of Residence is supported by a team of RAs who live on site and who have some responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of good community andthe welfare of the student population. RA’s are additionaly expected to provide emergency cover overnight and at weekends. In return for their duties, RAs receive free accommodation within the Halls of Residence.
Applications are normally invited in the spring for posts that run from August to the following July and candidates are appointed, after shortlisting, on the basis of their performance at a series of selection conferences.
Domestic Assistants (Avery Hill)
Principally required during the long summer vacation (although assistance is sometimes also required through the academic session). Jobs involve a wide range of manual tasks in the support of the local domestic teams of cleaners, porters and caretakers, especially in the running of the Halls through the conference season.
Applications will be invited in advance of the summer vacation and students are expected to be registered with the Job Shop.
Accommodation Assistants
Positions in the Accommodation Office are available at all main locations and are mostly required during the long summer vacation - up to and including the arrival of new students in Halls in September. Occasionally, there may also be some need at other times during the academic session. Jobs involve a variety of clerical and administrative tasks in support of the permanent Accommodation Office staff who allocate Hall places, collect Hall fees and deal with student enquires.
