No. All students, staff and visitors can choose to bring their car on to campus, although they must display a valid pay-and-display parking ticket or have a valid parking permit.

You can park in any marked bay; however some space is reserved specifically for disabled drivers, car sharers or university vehicles. Spaces are available on a first come first serve basis.

When do the pay-and-display charges apply?
You must pay for parking from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 9am and 5pm.

You can purchase weekly tickets at the pay-and-display machines or can buy virtual tickets by mobile phone* using a credit or debit card. Monthly virtual tickets can only be purchased by mobile phone*. You will find instructions on how to pay by mobile phone on the pay-and-display machines.

*20p surcharge will apply per transaction

Are tickets transferable between sites?

Tickets are valid for all three sites on campus and vehicles can be moved between the sites providing the ticket has not expired. Student Resident Permits are however restricted to the Southwood site only.

Will there be any warnings or leniency?

If you break the parking terms and conditions you should expect to receive a PCN even if this is your first visit to the car park. If however, you feel that you have been treated unfairly you can use the appeals procedure to appeal against this.

Can I park at Mansion Reception?

This area is reserved for university vehicles, goods deliveries and disabled parking. Other parking is not permitted at any time.

Do Motorcycles have to pay?

Motorcycles and scooters do not have to pay providing they park in areas marked for motorcycles. If you park a motorcycle in a car bay then you must pay to park.

Who can use the car share bays?

These bays are reserved until 10.00am for staff who have joined the car share scheme and have made arrangements to share with a car share partner / BUDi. A priority parking disc will need to be obtained and displayed in the vehicle and on the vehicle must be carrying at least one passenger. The passenger can be any passenger and does not have to be a member of the car share scheme. The normal parking tariff is separate and still applies. After 10.00am these bays can be used by anyone.

Can I share an annual permit?

Staff can nominate up to 2 vehicles on the permit disc. The second vehicle can be another member of staff's vehicle. The person applying is responsible for paying for the permit from salary but costs can be appropriately split between car share partners. This arrangement is separate from car share priority parking and if this is required a car share disc must be obtained. Alternatively staff who use more than one vehicle can nominate two vehicles of their own.

What are the arrangements for the council Rose Garden car park at Mansion Site?

There is no need to buy a ticket to park in this car park it is owned by the council and will remain free. It is anticipated that the council will introduce controls in the future.

What should I do if I can't find a space?

Although we anticipate that parking charges will result in less traffic on campus, during term time it is advisable to arrive in plenty of time before lectures. If there is no free space you must not leave your car on campus outside of a bay e.g. on double yellow lines. This is liable for a PCN. Instead you must look for a space to park your car safely off the campus. There are 60 spaces at Sparrows Farm just a short walk to the Southwood Site.

What special arrangements are there for disabled parking?

Blue Badge holders can use bays marked for disabled drivers. These bays are not exempt the parking charge however Blue Badge holders can obtain a free annual permit by applying in person with their badge to Mansion Reception.
