BSc (Hons) Environmental Science: Environmental science is an interdisciplinary combination of social, natural and physical science. At its core is the idea of sustainable environmental management. Within the Environmental Science programme you will study core courses in sustainability while having the choice of optional subjects. Examples of subjects studied include conservation, climate change, contaminated land remediation, sustainable tourism, ethics of development, environmental impact assessment, environmental management and auditing.
BSc/BA (Hons) Geography: We are living in an ever changing environment, the consequence of the interplay of natural, social, economic and political forces. Such forces have geographical impacts in the diverse patterns of physical environments, urban settlements, economies, cultures and social inequalities that are evident across the Earth's surface. Within the Geography programmes you will study core courses in sustainability while having the choice human (BA Hons) or physical geography (BSc Hons) options. Examples of subjects studied include Applied Climatology and Meteorology, Natural Hazards, Soils, Quaternary Studies, Urban Planning, Geography of Tourism and Development, Development Issues and Social Construction.
MSc Environmental Conservation: The programme is for individuals who already work in environmental conservation and who seek to broaden or update their knowledge, and for graduates who wish to become professionally involved in conservation and environmental management.
MSc Geographical Information Systems with Remote Sensing: This programme provides advanced training in the theory and practice of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and allied remote sensing techniques within the field of applications in geography, and environmental sciences.
MSc Natural Resources: This programme is for students and professionals who wish to acquire improved expertise and knowledge in natural resources. The programme explores the ways in which developmental needs can be met through better understanding and improved management of renewable natural resources, without placing unsustainable demands on the environment.
MSc Food Safety and Quality Management: Food safety is a global issue of increasing concern for governments, food producers, food processors and handlers, as well as consumers. The MSc Food Safety and Quality Management (by Research) is aimed at students with the appropriate background and interest in research, fulfilling the requirements for the degree by undertaking an extended research project and a limited number of taught courses.
MSc Sustainable Futures: This MSc programme in Sustainable Futures builds on recommendations in the national and international policy discourses that call for training and education in sustainability. Industry needs individuals that can recognise the social and environmental possibilities of sustainability and how to harness these for the benefit of society (subject to validation, contact Dr Richie Simon, R.Simon@gre.ac.uk).
