Department of Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour

Welcome to the web pages of the Department of Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour in the University of Greenwich Business School.

Our staff team focus their teaching and research particularly on the management of people within organisations. We seek to develop greater understanding of how work affects people's lives and how people's behaviour at work affects the success of organisations.

We recognise that everyone at work, no matter what their job title, is to some extent involved in 'management' and we aim to help our students develop skills and abilities which will enable them to work confidently in this role. We are committed to improving our students' employability as managers within 21st century organisations.

Our teaching and research cover a wide spectrum including, organisational behaviour human resource management, employee relations, training and development, business ethics, managing across cultures, communication skills and career management training. We aim to develop our students' abilities within these areas by using innovative approaches to learning and by offering them sympathetic support throughout their studies.

Our staff run one of the most popular degree programmes in the university, the BA Hons Business Administration, where students gain a broad understanding of the functions of business. We also run more specialist degree programmes in human resource management where students are prepared for a professional career in this field of management. We also offer Master's programmes in HRM which take this professional preparation to an advanced level.

The department has for a long time had close links with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the professional body for careers in the field of HRM. Some of our programmes lead directly to membership of this body which is the key to a successful career in personnel management.

The majority of the eighteen members of the department are actively involved in research in the area of management, publishing regularly in respected academic journals. The Work and Employment Relations Research Unit within the department provides a focus for this work. Some staff have achieved international renown in their field of research and contribute to conferences all over the world. Above all we aim to ensure that research keeps the teaching we offer our students fresh, relevant and up to date.

We hope you will explore our web pages and find out more about what we can offer at the University of Greenwich. We think it is a great place to study and hope that you may soon decide to join us here.
