London Centre for Events Management

The events industry is a dynamic and rapidly growing sector, incorporating both the commercial and creative aspects of business. In addition to the increasing complexity in the management of events in the arts, entertainment and festivals sectors, a growing number of organisations invest in live communications to create experiences for customers, inspire and motivate employees and develop meaningful messages for brands.

We have seen an increasing 'professionalization' of the events business, including a development of the skill sets and education of its people.  With over 300 students currently enrolled in the University of Greenwich’s undergraduate and postgraduate Events Management degree programmes, the London Centre for Events Management (LCEM) aspires to take a leading role in this professionalization.

As a catalyst in thought leadership for the industry, we will work closely with a variety of events-related organisations and institutions both locally and internationally in order to:

  • Promote excellence in events management practice and research, initially focussing on three key areas:  risk management, event evaluation and return on investment, and enterprise development
  • Provide a focal point for industry/academia interface, e.g. knowledge transfer
  • Develop a practice-led industry-academic interface ultimately leading to the establishment of a physical and/or virtual Events Industry Enterprise Hub
  • Guide and support businesses to help them maximise revenue and growth from the events sector and promote employment in the events sector.

Industry partners and employers will be offered many ways to engage with the LCEM and to benefit from it, including:  Corporate and Social Responsibility e.g. community events, Corporate Entertainment, Sponsorship, Training events and in-company programmes, Internships, Knowledge transfer partnerships
