Tourism Management

The study of Tourism in the Business School at Greenwich focuses on the management of tourism business and destinations, including visitor attractions, destination marketing organisations, regions, cultural organisations and tour operators, producing employable graduates who go on to work in one of the world's major economic sectors.

Whether you follow undergraduate, postgraduate, or research programmes at Greenwich, we offer students the unique opportunity to study in the heart of the exciting regeneration of East London and within one of the host boroughs for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

Globally, tourism is the world's fastest growing economic sector, directly and indirectly generating over 195 million jobs, 7.6% of the total workforce – this is set to rise to 250 million jobs by the end of the decade. By 2020 international arrivals are expected to exceed 1.5 billion reflecting the diversity of the tourism sector, which includes trips taken for leisure, business, events, pilgrimage, education and health.

Our World Heritage Site Campus is a unique and beautiful environment in which to study and plays host to many events and film productions. Greenwich is a key tourism location in the United Kingdom and this, along with its world heritage status, provides an ideal setting for the study of tourism.

Tourism research in the Business School

All staff teaching on the Tourism programmes at Greenwich are research active, carrying out research in areas such as special interest tourism, wellness tourism, World Heritage Sites, cultural tourism, seaside tourism, heritage tourism, cultural industries and tourism education.

Practitioners are also employed as visiting lecturers and a number of guest speakers are invited to present case studies and discuss contemporary issues with students throughout the academic year.

There are a number of research students in the tourism subject area, if you are interested in pursuing a PhD, MPhil or MRes degree in a tourism-related subject, please contact Dr Catherine Kelly.
