Supply Chain Management Research Group
The Supply Chain Management Research Group mainly conducts research and consultancy on Closed-Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) design and performance improvement. The definition of ‘closed-loop supply chain’ can be seen as the integration of the conventional forward supply chain, i.e. from manufacturer to customer, with reverse supply chain, i.e. from customer to re-manufacturer or recycling.
Due to the increasing restrictions through environmental regulation, it is inevitable that any type of organisation will need to take waste management into consideration when measuring its performance. The Research Group provides services to organisations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in terms of design, control, and operations of the CLSC system to maximize value creation over the entire life cycle of a product. In addition, we are also happy to delivery tailored-made training courses to meet organisation’s specific needs.
The Research Group is based in the Department of Systems Management and Strategy in the Business School. It has a track record in delivering high quality research and consultant projects for industrial clients, for instance Knowledge Connect,CatWalk, BMW engine in Austria, etc. We also have long established relationships with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). We have been hosting the annualforum for CILT since 2004 which has been highly praised by the delegates. We have also provided presentations about sourcing from low cost countries for CIPS members.
Our expertise includes operations process design, performance measurement, system network design, reverse logistics management, modelling and simulation, sourcing from low cost countries, etc.
