New Course for Under-Fives Providers
The University of Greenwich will train early years staff and nursery workers for the Government’s new Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) from January.
The Government wants all nurseries and daycare centres to have at least one Early Years Professional by 2015. It is part of their drive to make sure all under-fives get a good start in life.
There are different programmes depending on how well qualified and how much experience a person already has. The University of Greenwich will offer all four ‘pathways’, from three months part-time to 12 months full-time.
Early Years Professionals will be able to set standards of care, manage centres, and act as mentors to raise the skill levels of fellow workers.
People will need a graduate qualification to get the status or, if they have a foundation degree or equivalent, they can ‘top up’ their qualifications while they train.
Anyone interested should contact Donna Briant at the University of Greenwich on 020 8331 7662 or e-mail: d.briant@gre.ac.uk.
The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) is the body responsible for EYPS. It aims to improve the lives of children and young people by ensuring that people working with children have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice.
