David Gillborn
Trust the Education System… to be Racist
David Gillborn is Professor of Critical Race Studies in Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. Recently described as 'one of Britain's leading race theorists', David has twice been recipient of the UK's most prestigious education research award (from the Society for Educational Studies) for his books 'Racism and Education: coincidence or conspiracy?' and 'Rationing Education' (with Deborah Youdell). David is founding editor of the international journal Race Ethnicity and Education and co-editor (with Ed Taylor and Gloria Ladson-Billings) of Foundations of Critical Race Theory in Education (2009). In addition to his research and teaching, David also works closely with policy and advocacy groups, including the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, the Runnymede Trust and the National Children's Bureau.

Research and Policy-making: Unwanted messages? Shoot the messengers!
David Nutt heads the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit at Imperial College, London. The Unit integrates basic and clinical research to both study normal brain function, and to determine how it differs in psychiatric disorders such as addiction and depression. In October 2009 he was asked to resign from his position as Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs after pointing out that ecstasy and LSD were less dangerous than alcohol.

Faith and Trust in the Lord: Christotainment and Selling Jesus through Corporate Power
Shirley Steinberg is the co-founder and director of The Paulo and Nita Freire International Project for Critical Pedagogy. At present, she teaches at McGill University. Her most recent books include: Christotainment: Selling Jesus Through Popular Culture (2009); Diversity and Multiculturalism: A Reader (2009); Media Literacy: A Reader (2007); the award winning Contemporary Youth Culture: An International Encyclopedia; Kinderculture: The Corporate Construction of Childhood (2010, 2004) and The Miseducation of the West: How Schools and Media Distort Our Understanding of the Islam World (2004). She is also the founding editor of Taboo: The Journal of Culture and Education, and the Managing Editor of The International Journal of Critical Pedagogy.
