Centre for Innovative Product Development
Prof. James Gao
Medway Chair of Manufacturing Engineering
Head of Centre for Innovative Product Development
Welcome to the Centre for Innovative Product Development (CIPD), School of Engineering at University of Greenwich.
The Centre for Innovative Product Development (CIPD) was established in September 2006, in recognition of the expanding and increasingly important areas of innovation, knowledge management and new product development. The main research themes of the Centre include the development of methodologies and information frameworks to:
- Model and improve product development, manufacturing and service/maintenance processes;
- Enable effective communication and information sharing across an enterprise and its global suppliers;
- Capture, represent and reuse engineering knowledge including design, project planning, manufacturing capability and service knowledge;
- Manage and enable the product innovation process, including requirements and market analysis, ideas and concept development, design evaluation, validation, and optimisation in terms of economic, social and environmental constraints; and
- Integrate advanced ICT tools and systems including CAD/CAM/CAE, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), computer-aided process planning, knowledge-based systems, feature recognition, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping.
The centre provides opportunties to carry out further study and research within above mentioned areas. Please look at our News and Events section for further information.
If you would like to apply/enquire about any funding or research opportunties, please do not hesitate to contact us.
