International Mermaid Congress 2010
A delegation of seven GMI students from Programmes of International Maritime Policy and of Maritime MBA, led by Dr Minghua Zhao, participated in the 'International Mermaid Congress 2010', 21-25 May, in Istanbul at the invitation of Prof. Osman Kamil SAG, Rector, Piri Reis Maritime University, Istanbul, Turkey.
The Congress was an international event, the first ever organised by and for the students in Maritime Studies in the world. It attracted 600 students, and their lecturers, from 70 maritime institutions in near 50 countries. The Congress passed a Joint International Statement by MET students of the World on important MET issues of common interest in the verge and support of IMO Manila Conference of June 2010.
During the Congress, the GMI delegation networked and compared notes with participants from many other countries and drew much attention.
