Jon Wise Awarded Marine Society Prize 2008
The Annual Court (AGM) of the Marine Society & Sea Cadets took place at HMS President on 15th October 2008.
One of the prizes awarded by Martin Watson, President of the Chamber of Shipping, was presented to GMI graduate Jon Wise for Outstanding Achievement in Maritime History.
Jon Wise joined the GMI in September 2006 to study the MA Maritime History and quickly proved himself to be a student of great ability. The dissertation he researched was entitled Building for the 'Atomic Age'. The Royal Navy and Innovation in Technology and Design, 1948-1957: The Carrier, The Fast Submarine and the Guided Missile Ship . He consistently produced work of an extraordinarily high standard and at his graduation ceremony in July 2008 he received the MA with a clear distinction. In fact the overall grade that Jon achieved was the highest that has ever been awarded by the GMI.
Jon is now working towards an MPhil/PhD with Exeter University and the staff of the GMI wish him the best of luck with this new venture.
