GMI Annual Dinner 2008

The 2008 GMI Annual Dinner was a fantastic evening and enjoyed by fifty-two guests who were either current or previous students of the GMI and members of staff.

The evening began with drinks outside the impressive Queen Anne Court Council Room with background entertainment provided by a flautist and guests welcomed by Marine Society Cadets.

MaryAnne Adams, an MBA Maritime Management student gave a welcome address and then PhD student Reverend Cannon Ken Peters said grace before the meal began. Following the meal MA Maritime History student John Johnson-Allen gave the loyal toast and MBA Maritime Management student Melvin Mathews, gave the toast to the GMI.

The after-dinner speech was kindly given by special guest Captain Richard Woodman and the evening entertainment was finished off with each table competing to win a quiz hosted by Chris Lane. An explanation of the table names was also revealed as being different ships that various current students had worked on, so those individual students gave a little more information on each ship.

The success of the dinner this year was primarily due to the great organisation of MaryAnne Adams so thanks are given to her as well as to all of the above mentioned people, in particular Captain Richard Woodman.
