LAW1066 - Public Shipping Law
This course provides a legal background to the analysis of maritime policy. The interaction between international conventions, the operation of international customary law and the principles underpinning judicial decisions, provide a set of guiding parameters from which governments formulate and implement maritime policy. The course examines the legal regime of the oceans at regional and global levels, providing a basis for a thorough analysis of the core factors contributing to the development of maritime policy at domestic and international levels. Students will develop a working knowledge of legal research methods and appreciate the legal regime of the seas as well as the impact of legislative conventions on policy formulation and implementation.
