BA (Hons) English
This programme aims to help students to become more observant, analytic and perceptive readers and critics.
The degree provides a grounding in English literature from the early modern period to the present day while giving opportunities to study key aspects of the literature and cultural history of Europe and the Americas.
English is interpreted broadly to include drama and film as well as fiction and poetry.
Students are encouraged to think creatively about the relationship between literature and other forms of representation, between theory and practice and between English and a wider cultural history. Full advantage is taken of our culturally and historically rich location and proximity to central London.
Students take two core courses at level one and two and also choose from a range of English options. At level three, students choose three courses from a range of English options.
Visits to theatres, art galleries and museums are integral to many of our courses.
For information on fees and how to apply, see the online prospectus.
Combining English with another subject
It is also possible to combine English with another subject. For example, English with Drama or English and International Studies. For further information on combined honours and details of possible combinations, see the prospectus.
