BA (Hons) Criminology offers students the opportunity of undertaking a comprehensive programme of study within the context of a multidisciplinary framework, which acknowledges the diverse nature of criminology. The degree provides students with an overall understanding of the nature of crime and its control, encompassing major theoretical perspectives, which have helped formulate theory and practice within contemporary criminology. The degree provides a thorough grounding in the causes of crime, crime prevention and the criminal justice process from a national and international perspective.

The programme and the courses available, will appeal to students with a keen interest in criminology, social sciences and law, together with those considering employment within the criminal justice field and related areas. Career opportunities include: youth justice; social work; community safety; crime reduction; child protection and mental health. The degree is also appropriate for those considering careers in the probation, prison or police services. Easily transferable skills including: research, presentation, communication and problem solving, ensure a criminology degree provides a good foundation for other occupations in both the public and private sectors.
