The Regional and Community Histories Research Group (RCHRG) was formed in 2005 to establish the University of Greenwich as a focal point for work in local and community history in the south east. The group comprises Drs Dunster, Hanna, and Palmer, as well as academics from other universities and professionals from the heritage and cultural sector. RCHRG currently oversee three major research projects:

  • The Kent Victoria County History exploring the social and economic history of Kent and the Lower Medway valley in the period 1550-1939
  • Coastal Urban Cultures: Past, Present and Future looking to chart the distinctive characteristics of seaside towns and communities
  • Cross-Channel History Network seeking to explore and preserve the histories of maritime communities on either side of the Channel
The Regional and Community Histories Research Group play an active part in developing relationships with the wider community. Each of the RCHRG projects involves substantial collaborations with regional partners in the cultural and heritage sectors.
