Biography
Louise has been teaching Sociology at the University of Greenwich since 2005. Her research interests include race and educational achievement, more specifically positive achievement amongst Black (African and African Caribbean) groups, experiences of home and overseas minority ethnic undergraduate and post graduate students in British institutions; migration and settlement of minority groups in Britain and notions of ethnic identity amongst second and third generation migrants.
Prior to her work at the University of Greenwich, Louise has worked in other areas in the voluntary sector, local and central government. Work in the voluntary sector included running a project which supporting teens from inner city areas in Nottingham who were at risk of school exclusion; policy research amongst deprived local areas in both Nottingham and Oxfordshire, and using data to assist local community organisations in their funding applications; mentoring unemployed individuals and assisting them back to work as part of the New Deal programme; writing and developing national Community Cohesion policy, relating specifically to political leadership.
