Capabilities
The Functional Interfaces Group has very strong industrial collaborations with major companies such as Pfizer and BP. The diversity of experience in the staff and students promotes a flexible, reactive approach to problem solving.
Functional Interface staff members are often invited to present plenary and keynote lectures at national and international meetings and are also on the editorial board of scientific publications, e.g. Langmuir, and have been responsible for the organisation of a number of national and international conferences.
The techniques and expertise available to researchers within the Functional Interfaces Group include:
- Calorimetry (isothermal, titration, scanning);
- Raman microscopy;
- Supercritical Fluid Reactor;
- Diffuse reflectance UV/VIS spectroscopy.
- Dynamic Light Scattering for:
- Particle Sizing;
- Zeta potential;
- Fluorescence Spectroscopy
- Dissolution analysis;
- Texture Analyser;
- Temperature controlled Rheometer;
- Franz cell diffusion;
- HPLC;
- Electrochemistry;
- Computational Chemistry;
- Thin film coating; and
- ATR FT-IR
Electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence and NMR are also available within the School.
