The School of Science promotes the "International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience" (IAESTE UK). In the UK IAESTE is administered by the British Council, the United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities which builds engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.
The IAESTE exchange programme is offered to Science students, together with offering placements to foreign trainees. Through the IAESTE exchange programme students may secure paid course-related training abroad, usually for periods between 6-12 weeks during the summer months. Work experience gained abroad has the added value of enhancing students’ independence and flexibility, communication and foreign language skills, and contributes to their personal and academic development.
What IAESTE offers students:
- Salaries to cover the local cost of living
- Work experience available in over 80 countries, primarily in the summer months
- Placements for undergraduates in Science
- Course-related work in industry, research institutions, and the public sector
- Organised social activities in most countries
- Practical guidance through nomination and acceptance procedures
- Assistance with work permits, visas and accommodation
