What help can you get from the careers advisers?
The Careers Team provide one-to-one guidance for students and graduates of the University if Greenwich in a confidential environment.
Careers guidance interviews are offered by appointment only, and last thirty to forty five minutes. Appointments are normally offered within five working days. If you wish to arrange a careers guidance appointment book an appointment with your campus Student Centre.
For your appointment it would be useful for you to bring along a copy of your latest CV. This will help the Careers Adviser assess such things as:
- your skills and abilities
- strengths and weaknesses in your work experience
- present employability for your preferred career
- how you market yourself
Careers guidance can also be offered in drop-in sessions of fifteen minutes, for quick query advice and information. These are available during term time only. Examples where short appointments such as these are good for are:
- finding out what information the Careers Team can provide
- assessment of CVs & covering letters and application forms
- advice on which newspapers to use for particular job sectors
- advice on how to dress for interviews
Group Sessions and Workshops
These are run on topics that will enhance your success in your future career. These include:
- advice on CV writing
- job searching and application forms
- interview skills
The Careers Team are also qualified to run mock psychometric test sessions. These are most useful if you are applying for graduate training schemes, as there is a strong chance that you will be asked to sit a test as part of the recruitment procedure. A mock psychoemtric test lasts about three hours, and are quite intensive! After your test, a careers adviser will analyse your results and schedule a meeting with you to give feedback.
